Caroline's Opinions

Yes, The 3's are here! I don't know why people complain about the terrible two's. They weren't bad. Three is exhausting and exciting and so much fun. Yes, we have had our share of the dramatic side of Caroline. Oh Nooooooooooooo, I do mytelf! Don't LOOK at me. GO AWAY. All she wanted to do was dress herself. Apparently my looking at her does not allow her to complete this task. She actually runs with all her clothes behind a chair or couch and gets dressed.

Last night, she was watching TV with her brother. (who sits and watches the backyardigans with her because she loves to lay next to him and hang out). Well, it was time to get ready for bed and I called her to wash up and brush her teeth. She said no she wants to stay with Ricky. Well, he was on to watching Family Guy, which is NOT a child's show and she refused to leave his room. I went and walked her to the bathroom and for the next 15 minutes she refused to get ready. I was going to send her to her room but then she actually would have won by not washing and brushing her teeth. So, I stuck it out and let her tell me she didn't like me anymore she LOVED Ricky. OK, I said. You still have to get ready for bed and that show is not for little girls. When you are in college like Ricky you can watch it. NOOOOO, I want Ricky. No Caroline, it is bedtime. Finally she decided that I was bigger than her and even though she told me to close my eyes, about 500 times, she could not physically open the door and go to Ricky's room. SO, I got her ready, teeth brushed and in bed. NO story tonight sweetheart. she lays down, gives Daddy the biggest hug, kisses all over his face, rubs the back of his neck, etc..wins him over, and we say prayers. She rolls over on her belly, purposely, then back on her back. She tells me she loves me so much, hugs me really hard, kisses me and asks me to stay with her all night. KIDS!

At her three year checkup Dr May asked if Caroline was going up and down the stairs one foot at a time. No, I said, (NOTE TO SELF ummmm I better work on this, it must be an important milestone. My child has to be normal, I get all stressed about it. I can't sleep, I try to remember if any of her friends are doing it. Gee, I never even thought about it. What kind of mother am I. You know how it goes.) So, we get home and we start to try to walk up and down the stairs one foot on each step. It is really far down for her little legs. It really looks like she will fall. Well I figure she will one day be able to do it. Well, this morning she decided to try it herself, I didn't say a word, and she was halfway down and again dramatically said...Why does Dr May want me to do this, IT IS SOOOOO HARD. I cracked up.
I love that Caroline wants to make friends wherever she goes. It started happening while we were at Disney. While we were watching the fireworks she would say that she really missed her friends and that she wished they were here to watch with her. She was so sincere about it. I love that side of her. So, I explained to Caroline that she could make new friends and she was so excited. These are twins, Alyssa and Jennifer, 4 , that Caroline actually herself to, made room for them to sit next to her to watch a parade and spoke with them the whole time.
She was making friends all over Disney. Last Sunday at Kent's basketball game she went up to a little girl and they played together throughout the whole game. It is great to see how she understands how important friends are. She is such a delight. (most of the time)

Haha, kids are funny. They want SO bad to be able to do things they way THEY want to do things. It's pretty funny, but sometimes maddeningly frustrating at the same time.

Um, Lexi's not even remotely close to going down one foot at a time. She is fully capable of stomping the bits out of the steps as she goes, but one foot at a time? Heck, I have trouble doing that. :) Don't worry.

Christopher couldn't do the one-foot-at-a-time thing on the steps until he got much taller. Hannah is about the same height as Lexi and Caroline and she can't do it.

The "do it myself" and "stop looking at me" are enough to drive me to drink.

My favorite part of three is having actual conversations :)

She is so THREE!! Not that I know much about three year olds, but Zachariah teaches me every day! Right down to the, "leave me alone", "go away" and the ever pleasant, "i want.... (it is always someone other than ME!).

Why is it that they think they have to exert their independance on us? Really, I'll let him do things, just not if he's going to die or something like that!

I'm going to have to watch him walk down the stairs next time. Morgan tries, then, usually starts sliding and then says, "whee" as she slides down. Kids are too funny and exhausting all at the same time.

What did OUR parents do with us?
